President Biden signed the PACT Act today after Senate Republicans relented to pressure from veterans groups and activists. The Act gives Camp Lejeune victims a 2-year deadline from today to file their civil lawsuit.
This means that all Camp Lejeune victims will have until August 10, 2024, to bring their claims under the Act.
From 1953 to 1987, the water at Camp Lejeune contained toxic chemicals that are known to cause cancers. The level of contamination in the water was nearly 280 times higher for certain chemicals than what would be considered safe. People who drank the water at the Marine Base could have fallen victim to the government’s negligence.
Long-term exposure to these chemicals has led to numerous illnesses including various cancers, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Parkinson’s disease. For many decades people were becoming seriously ill after drinking the water at Camp Lejeune, but for a while, it was not understood that the water was contaminated.
The Camp Lejeune Justice act of 2022 allows victims and their families to sue and recover damages for the harm caused by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Claims are NOT limited to military members and their families. It also applies to people who lived at the base such as spouses, children, and other family members. Workers exposed to the contaminated water are also covered.
Jenner Law is pleased to represent Marines and their families nationwide for claims under the Act. The call and the consultation are free.
